Uganda says Good Riddance to MJ
Last week the Daily Monitor, one of the largest newspapers in Uganda, attempted to honor the King of Pop with a large pull-out section. They went around Kampala and asked people for their fond memories of MJ, but I don’t think they were ready for the responses that they got. It’s not every day you see a eulogy backfire, but read some of these quotes and you’ll see what I mean.
Aruna Kabuda, Business man: “I did not know much about him but I knew he was a very rich man and very famous in the world. I was also told that he was a black man who made himself white.”
Moses Musingo, Lecturer: “The message in his songs is touching, like The Earth Song and Heal the World. He was also a victim of the entertainment industry. He never had a normal childhood and when he tried to get it back at a later age, people called him a pervert.”
Khamis Napandu, Driver: “I wasn’t a fan but I heard he was changing into a woman and then he changed into a white man. I did not care much about him.”
Patrick Kabbale, Medical Worker: “What I will remember Michael Jackson for is the break-dance and those years when everybody tried to learn it but that was a long time ago. I didn’t like the way he changed his skin colour though. That was when I started hating him.”
There you have it. Uganda may be the only place on Earth today that is not sorry to see Michael Jackson go. RIP MJ
